✨ The Magic Behind Our Preschool Yoga Sessions: The Resources We Use

At Mummy & Baby Buddies, our preschool yoga sessions are designed to bring movement, imagination and calm together in a way that feels natural and joyful for little ones. Preschoolers learn best through play, and the resources we use are carefully chosen to support their growing bodies, busy minds and blossoming emotional confidence.

Whether a child joins us full of energy or arrives feeling a little unsure, our tools help them settle, engage and shine in their own unique way.

✴️ Why Our Resources Matter

Preschoolers learn through seeing, touching, listening and exploring. That’s why our sessions are filled with inviting, sensory-rich props that make yoga fun and accessible. Each resource serves a purpose—supporting concentration, encouraging gentle movement, and helping children understand their feelings through playful experiences.

Every item we use is age-appropriate, safe, and woven into our sessions with care. It’s this thoughtful blend of movement and magic that keeps little ones coming back with big smiles.

Our Core Yoga Resources

🧘 Themed Toys

Using our extensive range of themed toys, we can bring any story or theme to life. Using lucky dip bags, the children also learn turn taking and the excitement of revealing the next pose is infectious.

📚 Story Cards & Visual Prompts

We use themed cards—animals, weather, jungle adventures and more—to guide our sessions. They help children follow along, spark imagination and support early language development.

🎵 Music & Calm Soundscapes

Soft background music encourages relaxation, while lively action songs add fun to warm-ups. Music creates rhythm, predictability and emotional comfort.

Sensory Props That Spark Engagement

🌈 Scarves & Ribbons

Perfect for warm-ups, breathing games and imaginative dance-like movements. They allow children to express themselves freely and joyfully.

🪂 Parachute

By using our Parachute we can play games, learn how to calm ourselves when excited and bring our imagination to life. For example, if we are exploring a theme of weather or winter, we could use the Parachute and our (Shower Puff) Snowballs to create a snow flurry or storm.

🌟 Bubbles

Bubbles teach turn-taking, breath control and stillness. And let’s be honest—bubbles bring instant smiles to every child (and adult!) in the room.

Sensory Balls

Used for rolling games, partner poses and mindfulness activities. They help build body awareness and encourage positive social interactions.

⚖️ Balance Board

Using our balance board encourages turn taking and also encourages the children to support each other. It can also form part of an obstacle course to support the development of the children’s vestibular system.

💠 Stepping Stones

Used as part of an obstacle course or on their own, the Stepping Stones can help the children’s balance, their vestibular system and also their problem solving skills.

🚶Balance Beam

Using our Balance Beam we can expand our imagination for it to become whatever it needs to be. It could be part of an obstacle course or a plank for pirates!

👣 Follow Feet

Using our Sticky Feet, we can create a pathway for the children to explore, and use their problem solving skills to match their feet with the direction of the feet pads.

Imagination-Boosting Tools

🐾 Puppet Friends

Our adorable puppets introduce session themes, model poses and help children explore emotions. Puppets allow even shy children to connect and engage.

🎭 Storytelling Props

Soft toys, character objects or themed items make each yoga adventure feel real. A simple toy animal can turn a stretch into a safari or a balancing pose into a jungle tree!

Resources for Relaxation & Emotional Regulation

🛏️ Meditation Scripts

Using carefully selected mediation scripts suitable for little ears, we can create a relaxing and calm environment for the children to let their imaginations wonder. We also understand that little ears aren’t as quiet as mediation sometimes requires, but that’s fine, an interactive mediation is perfect!

🔴 Breathing Ball

Using our expanding breathing ball, it can help explain to children about breathing in the correct way and can help mimic our bodies when breathing,

😮‍💨 Breathing Props

Using simple Breathing Props, can help children see what impact a deep breath can have.

🌬️ Breathing Buddies

Children place a small soft toy on their tummy and watch it rise and fall with each breath. It’s a simple yet powerful way to introduce relaxation techniques.

How These Resources Support Development

Every resource plays a role in helping children grow:

– Gross and fine motor skills through movement, balance and manipulation.

– Sensory processing through textures, sounds and gentle challenges.

– Emotional regulation skills through breathing props and calming visuals.

– Social confidence through partner games, shared props and group play.

– Imagination and creativity through stories, puppets and themed adventures.

The best part? Children learn all of this without any pressure—just playful, meaningful movement.

A Glimpse Into a Typical Session

A session might begin with a calming breathing technique which could include waving colourful scarves in the air or using our breathing buddies, followed by learning how to warm up our bodies and stretch our muscles.

Then we follow with story-led poses that turn little ones into lions, trees or tiny raindrops. After a sensory game or activity, we slow things down with breathing buddies or the breathing ball. By the end, children leave relaxed, proud and glowing.

A Warm Closing Thought

Everything we use in our preschool yoga sessions is chosen with one goal: to help children feel safe, confident and connected—to themselves and to the world around them. We love watching them grow stronger, calmer and more expressive each week.
