Toddler Yoga is a fun, energetic session that allows Little One’s to move their bodies in a natural way. Children are natural yogi’s and all our yoga poses support their natural development and movement.
During the sessions, it can be a good way to have fun with your Little One as grown ups are encouraged to join in. Yes, even in a nursery/preschool, grown ups are encouraged!
Toddler Yoga sessions can be joined up until the age of 7 and can be enjoyed with a parent/career or nursery/preschool/school staff.
All of the elements of the sessions are linked to a story or a theme. Sometimes, we might read a book, whereas other times we have a lucky dip bag based around a theme for the children to pick out.
The themes can be based around a topic you have in your session currently, or seasonal. Sometimes, the topic follows the current interests of the children.
With over 100 lesson plans and ideas, we have plenty of themes to interest even the most active minds.
So what happens in a Toddler Yoga Session:
- First we sing our “Hello Song” to welcome everyone to the session
- We learn our mantra for the day and learn about what a mantra is
- Then we move onto our breathing exercise for the session. We could be a lion breathing or counting our breathes in and out.
- Before starting any yoga, we warm up our bodies with a fun action song or game.
- Now we move onto our Yoga. Our Yoga will follow the theme of the session and the moves are simple, yet support your Little One’s natural yogi ability.
- After our yoga, we enjoy some sensory, exploration play. This could be sensory stepping stones, parachute play, feely boxes, an obstacle course. We have so many activities to use in our sessions.
- To round of the session and ensure that we don’t all leave overexcited, we end with some relaxation. This could just be breathing techniques, listening to calming music or a simple mediation.
- Then we all sing our “Goodbye Song” and wave our goodbyes.
There are songs, actions and lots of fun along the way.
As the sessions are only 30 minutes long, there is something to keep Little One’s entertained and the activities themselves aren’t that long to keep little mind interested.
But if little minds do start to wonder, don’t worry, I have a couple of techniques that can bring them back to the session if they want to join, of course. But as always no one has to join in the session if they don’t want to. If I am in your setting, they can explore a different activity and if you are in my setting there is always a mindful activity that can be done instead.
Also, having raised children myself, I understand that some sessions are completely different to others and your Little One just might not want to join in on a certain day.
You do not need any previous yoga experience to attend with your Little One,. The yoga moves are simple, but if there are any that you are struggling with, let me know and I can offer alternatives. I never expect anyone to do anything that they don’t feel comfortable with.
The only consideration for join a Toddler Yoga Session, would be that if you or your Little One have certain medical conditions or you are pregnant. But please do contact me to discuss this further.
