What is a Tummy Time Workshop?

A Tummy Time Workshop is a one off session that guides you and gives you different ideas of ways you can incorporate Tummy Time into your day and with different activities.

The NHS describes Tummy Time, as awake time a baby spends on their tummy. Tummy Time originated back in the early 90’s as parents were encouraged to sleep their babies on their backs. Back sleeping babies, were found to have a slower development rate to that of front sleeping babies. Therefore Tummy Time was introduced as an awake activity.

Tummy Time as an activity came after the Lullaby Trust’s Back to Sleep Campaign in the early 90’s. The Back to Sleep Campaign helped to reduce the amount of SID’s by 90%, however it was found that babies were developing slower not having the amount of Tummy Time they were getting sleeping on their tummies. So now we use Tummy Time as an awake activity.

The easy rule to follow is:

Back to Sleep, Tummy to Play

During Mummy & Baby Buddies 90 minute Tummy Time Workshop, we explore:

  • The history of Tummy Time
  • Different positions we can put Little One in to experience Tummy Time
  • Sensory activities that can be done in Tummy Time
  • Moving in and out of Tummy Time
  • Encouraging rolling
  • Using a Yoga Ball for Tummy Time
