What is a Baby Massage Class?

A Baby Massage class is a course of sessions, usually 4-5 weeks long for Parents / Careers and their babies between 6 weeks old and 1 year of age. However, it is usually easier to massage before the baby starts to crawl, so we do say up to precrawling.

Baby Massage is a series of massage strokes combined with simple reflexology techniques to gently soothe your Little One. Baby Massage can be a time to bond and relax with your baby through the power of positive touch.

During the course you will usually slowly learn how to safely massage your baby. This is usually the best way as most babies have never experienced massage before coming to a Baby Massage class and it helps them to settle with the feeling of touch as well as getting them comfortable with the change in environment.

Mummy & Baby Buddies group Baby Massage Courses are split into 4 sessions over 4 weeks, giving Little One plenty of time to be comfortable and enjoy their massage.

Baby Massage has an endless list of benefits, of which some include, helping to relieve the symptoms of Colic, Trapped Wind, Teething and Snuffles.

All of Mummy & Baby Buddies sessions are baby led, so if Little One decides that the basket of toys is more interesting one week, or they are asleep or feeding do not worry. They can even scream the building down and that’s ok!

As well as learning to massage your baby, we also have plenty of time to chat between the other parents, and as they all have babies of a very similar age, it’s nice to know that your not the only one going through “this” baby stage.

All the sessions are focused around being relaxed and using the principles of the Danish concept of Hygge, we aim for the classes to also be cosy and inviting.

During one of our sessions, we also have a short meditation for parents. Ir’s only 5 minutes long and we don’t expect babies to be quiet for this time, it’s just nice to do something for parents as well as the babies!

So what actually happens:

We all arrive (possibly a little flustered) but we have 5 minutes before we start just to get everyone organised.

I do a quick introduction to the session and check-in with everyone.

Then we start our massage, with calm relaxing music to help us all enjoy the environment.

One we have finished our massage, we end with a chat, a game, a short meditation or your graduation pictures.

I never rush you out of the room, so if you’re still feeding Little One or sorting something out, there’s no need to worry.

During any of my sessions, please feel free to ask as many questions as we go through the session or stay the end of the session if you feel more comfortable.

After the sessions have finished, I supply you with the handouts covering what we have covered during the class, for you to have a practice at home. But if you are ever unsure of anything, please contact me and I’ll be more than happy to help.
